Dick Muri
Candidate for Washington state's 9th Congressional District
Congressman Adam Smith’s Deceptive TV Advertisements
August 4th, 2010 at 7:21 pm by DickLast week incumbent congressman Adam Smith released two deceptive TV advertisements designed to distance Smith from the Democratic party and his liberal voting record.
In each ad, “Small Business” and “Home Grown Leader,” Smith uses the word “Independent” under his name near the disclaimer, leading viewers to conclude that he is running as an Independent instead of as a Democrat.
In a time when both the public and and many candidates are demanding “government transparency,” Smith is the opposite of transparent. He is running ads that mislead viewers, as does his moderate-sounding political rhetoric that contradicts his very liberal voting record.
“Adam Smith is not independent,” said Dick Muri. “He has voted with the Democratic Party leadership 96.6% of the time. On all recent major legislation such as the health care bill, the stimulus package, the economic bailout, and Cap & Trade, he has been 100% in lock-step with the Nancy Pelosi Congress.”
Dick Muri went on to say, “Two political organizations, one conservative, the other liberal, rank Smith more liberal than Seattle’s Jim McDermott. Adam Smith is not representing the people of the 9th District. Rather, he represents his party’s ideas concerning big spending and government control.”
(Ratings and statistics have been taken from The Washington Post, Americans for Democratic Action, and the American Conservative Union.)
Challengers take on veteran congressmen
August 4th, 2010 at 7:20 pm by DickKris Sherman of The News Tribune wrote an article about the 9th District content.
A Pierce County councilman, a rocket scientist and a government actuary all want Adam Smith’s seat in Washington’s 9th Congressional District.
Muri, a retired Air Force lieutenant colonel, has a County Council platform and former service on the Steilacoom School Board boosting name recognition and, he believes, electability.
Postma, 64, bills himself “as the only conservative who can beat Adam Smith.” But Smith clobbered him two years ago in a 67 percentto-33-percent cruise. That leaves Muri looking like a likely Smith opponent in November.
Muri says he’s not running against Adam Smith, he’s running against Adam Smith’s voting record, calling the seven-term incumbent a highly partisan liberal who isn’t meeting constituents’ needs.
Angie Vogt: A Campaign of Substance and Style
August 4th, 2010 at 7:16 pm by DickAn enthusiastic supporter of the campaign, Angie Vogt, wrote a stunning article on Red County. In it, she depicts the campaign as very Reaganesque and successful as Dick Muri runs to unseat Adam Smith this November!
“He is one of those guys that seems to be everywhere. This is not just because it’s campaign season, but because he has been a community activist for so long, that he has so much time already invested in solid relationships and therefore has earned credibility.
“An indication of Muri’s strong leadership abilities is that he genuinely cares about getting people involved in the political process. He doesn’t view others as possible competition, but as welcome participants to the process.
“Another indication of a candidate’s character is his or her campaign staff. A candidate with a sloppy, rude or frantic staff might be a sign that the candidate himself has little experience in actual leadership, or is just a neophyte to the specific requirements of the political process. Dick Muri’s campaign is one of the smartest and classiest examples of organization that I have ever seen. “

Adam Smith’s $3 Billion Pet Project
August 4th, 2010 at 7:13 pm by DickIn May ABC reported on a $3 billion dollar pork-barrel project being pushed through congress. The project is a second engine for the Joint Strike Fighter. Who is responsible for this? Congressman Adam Smith.
In an article by CongressDaily, the Pentagon said the following about a second engine for the JSF:
. . . Defense Secretary Robert Gates has said repeatedly that he will recommend President Obama veto any defense legislation that keeps alive the alternate engine program, arguing that any savings generated from competition are not worth the upfront costs of developing and buying two engines.
“Study on top of study has shown that an extra fighter engine achieves marginal potential savings but heavy upfront costs — nearly $3 billion worth,” Gates said during a May 8 address on defense spending, delivered at the Eisenhower Presidential Library in Abilene, Kan.
After the markups, Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell said the Pentagon will “continue to engage in the process to ensure they understand why this is not in the interest of our military and the taxpayers.“
Adam Smith is forcing through funding for a second jet engine that the Department of Defense, President Obama, and Republicans say is not needed and a waste of money, so why is Smith so adamant this engine get funding?
Congressman Adam Smith is a moderate?
August 4th, 2010 at 7:10 pm by DickWhen I discuss our campaign for congress with voters in the 9th Congressional District I tell people, “I am not running against Congressman Adam Smith the person, I am running against Congressman Adam Smith’s voting record.”
Representative Smith calls himself a moderate in all his literature, speeches, Facebook, etc, but according to well-regarded rating agencies, he is actually more liberal – or as liberal – as Congressman Jim McDermott from Seattle and Nancy Pelosi from San Francisco.
The 2009 rankings of congressional votes by the American Conservative Union on a scale of 0 to 100 were; Congressman Adam Smith 0, and Congressman Jim McDermott 4! Congressman Smith was 0 for 25 votes. With that kind of batting record, Congressman Smith should be benched!
The very liberal Americans For Democratic Action gave both Congressman Adam Smith and Congressman Jim McDermott an extremely liberal 95% rating.
Both The News Tribune and the Seattle Times have described Congressman Smith as a moderate. Maybe Adam portrays himself as a moderate when discussing issues, but the Adam Smith who represents us in Washington’s 9th Congressional District has been voting the far left liberal Democratic party line in DC for the past four years and has become a Nancy Pelosi – Jim McDermott clone.
Time to hire new representation. Please share this blog post with your friends and let’s Get Out The Vote for the August 17th primary! Send a message to the tax, borrow, and spend DC bureaucrats that Citizens in the 9th Congressional District are taking back control of their government!
