Western Washington University men’s basketball point guard Morris Anderson has been named Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Week for Dec. 27-Jan. 2.

A 6-foot-3 senior from Federal Way (graduate of Federal Way High School), Anderson scored 35 points and also had 13 assists, eight rebounds and five steals in leading the Vikings to wins over Dixie State, 81-73, and SUNY-Geneseo, 75-63.

The victories extended Western’s winning streak to 12, the fourth longest in school history and the sixth longest in GNAC history.

Anderson made 12-of-23 field goals, including 7-of-16 3-pointers in the two contests. He had 17 of his 24 points against Dixie State as the Vikings rallied from an 11-point second-half deficit.

Anderson then scored all of his 11 points during a 28-6 run as Western built an early 33-11 lead and also had 11 assists in the 12-point triumph over SUNY-Geneseo.

On the season, Anderson is averaging 13.1 points, 5.0 assists, 4.1 rebounds and 2.6 steals.

The 13-1 Vikings, ranked No.16 nationally, open GNAC play this week, traveling to Saint Martin’s on Thursday (7 p.m.) and to Western Oregon on Saturday (4:30 p.m.).
