UW’s Tony Wroten Undergoes Arthroscopic Surgery On His Right Knee

SEATTLE - Washington freshman guard Tony Wroten underwent minor arthroscopic surgery on his right knee this Thursday and is expected to return in time for the regular season.

Wroten (Seattle, Wash.) is Washington’s highly touted freshman out of Garfield high school. He is one of seven freshmen to join Husky Coach Lorenzo Romar’s squad this season.

“Tony could have probably gone the whole season with a little discomfort at times and played through this,” said Romar. “But he and his family, plus our staff, thought it would be better to take care of this now so he would be fine for the rest of the year.

“It has been nagging him a little bit, but he’ll be ready to go in no time soon.”

Wroten said on Wednesday that he expects the surgery to be a minor procedure and asserted that he will not miss any regular season games this year and that his goal is to be able to play in the exhibition contest against Seattle Pacific on Nov. 4.

Coach Romar likened Wroten’s surgery to a similar procedure that Husky football player Chris Polk went through before the start of the season.

“He sat out a few days, just to make sure he was okay and didn’t miss any games,” Romar said of the Huskies’ running back that ranks second in the Pac-12 with 121 rushing yards per game.

“Now we see what Chris Polk is doing. Tony should be the same.”
